Bringing home a new puppy is such an exciting and life changing experience, but along with that will come some responsibility. One task that most owners will begin right away is potty training. Potty training your new puppy is probably the most challenging obstacle of adding a new furry friend to your family. We hope these tips will help make the process a bit easier for you and your puppy!

** It is our responsibility as the owner to show our puppy where they can and cannot do their business. **

Tip #1 – Feed your puppy on a consistent schedule.

Tip #2 – Indoor supervision. You must constantly watch your puppy closely. Watch for warning signs like sniffing the ground or walking in circles as your cue to take your puppy outside.

Tip #3 – When your puppy does its business outside, REWARD him/her! Your puppy needs to know that what he/she did, was correct & deserves praise!

Tip #4 – Limit the exposure your puppy has to your house. Begin with a crate & puppy play pen and slowly increase access to the rest of the house. For example, allowing the puppy in the kitchen only, then the kitchen & dining room only and so on. (This makes it easier to keep an eye on your puppy at all times.)

Tip #5 – Take your puppy outside every hour. Through the night, take your puppy out every 2-4 hours.
Also take your puppy outside after eating, after playing, & after letting them out of their crate. (We recommend taking your puppy outside to the same spot every time.)

Tip #6 – If you catch your puppy having an accident in the house, immediately pick up your puppy and take him/her outside. Do NOT yell at or scold your puppy, this will delay the potty-training process.

We hope these tips are helpful to your puppy potty training journey and wish you the best!
