When it comes to grooming, a standard poodle requires quite a bit of attention. They shed minimally, but when they do, the hair usually stays on their body and ends up matting together with other hair if not brushed regularly to remove the loose hair. When the hair becomes matted, it usually needs to be shaved off and a new layer of hair begins to grow.

Most Poodle owners prefer to keep their Poodle in a shorter clip, since it is easier to maintain.

Some owners learn to do this clipping and trimming themselves, while others choose to take their dog to a professional groomer every 4-6 weeks.

Grooming Checklist

-Brushing – We recommend brushing your poodle’s hair daily, or at least 2-3 times a week.

-Ear Cleaning – Poodles long drop-down ears make it dark, warm & moist and encourage infection. To reduce the risk of ear infection, we recommend cleaning your poodle’s ears on a weekly basis.

-Eye Cleaning – We recommend keeping your Poodles eyes clean of mucus (eye boogers) daily.

-Teeth – Brushing your Poodles teeth regularly is very important. We recommend 2-3 times a week.

-Bathing – Your poodle’s skin cells go through a life cycle that lasts 21 days so for that reason we recommend that you bathe your poodle no more than once every 3-4 weeks, allowing the skin to regenerate and regain its natural oils.
